suggestion

I am looking at your site with interest for my music lab students. I love the possibility your site offers of letting each student work at his own pace and not having to install any software (which in many districts would problematic). Keep up the good work...I hope your site thrives and expands, because it's neat and unique. It fills a needed niche. My two suggestions are:

1. Get RID of the car-horn sound for the student wrong answer. Any teacher who's spent more than three hours in a classroom can tell you that kids will start filling up the classroom with that "aa-ooo-gah" sound, start giggling at each other, and have contests to see who can "aa-ooo-gah" the fastest; it will cause most students to fall apart and not try the exercises. That's what WILL happen; I guarantee it (most schools are not lucky enough to have earphones for each computer.) Additionally, that sound "announces" to the whole class that a kid got one wrong...that's a sure way to embarrass the kid who's really trying. Instead, can you allow the musical notes to be played out loud, but have a visual (silent) signal for getting it wrong?

2. On the flip side, it is not very evident to students when they get a problem RIGHT. The drill goes immediately to the next problem, and since the screen is similar, I even often had to do a double-take to realize I was on the next problem already. My suggestion would be a silent visual signal, preferably bright: perhaps a big balloon that appears covering the work area that says "Right!" or "Good job!" or "Correct!" in big font in red or green or pink or something.

These are good suggestions -- I've added them into my to-do list along with some other upgrades to the way all of the drills work.

No promises about when any given feature will be complete, but the good news is that the site *is* growing, and as it does I can dedicate more time to ongoing development.

This is very nice site!

On the note drill, I would like the ability to select a range of notes so that
the student could learn a little at a time. My students are just beginning piano.

I recently assigned the interval drill to my students. Unfortunately there isn't a bass clef option that I could offer to my low brass students. It would be great if that drill could have a bass clef version as well as alto and tenor clef.

Just a minor update here -- the oogah-horn is gone for wrong answers.
Tammy Bearly's request (for more control over what notes are selected) is currently "in the works" -- I've gotten the same request from a few teachers.

Matt, it's on my list to support all major clefs in all of the drills, just making it an option instead of having different versions (like I do currently for Interval Drills, C-Clef Note Reading, etc.). It'll be a little tricky to deploy, but it's a step I need to take at some point.
