Common Practice Period, roughly 1600 to 1900 or so in "classical" music.

It stands for music of the Common Practice Period (1650 -1900 or thereabouts). It's the period of Western classical music composition that's always been used as the standard for teaching in schools and colleges. In other words, the compositional styles of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms etc, up until things started getting weird with Stravinsky, Schoenberg, etc.
