Hello,

My music dictionary says 'senza sordino' means play without mute and 'con sordino' means play with mute

Is that correct?

Also, does 'mute' refer to the pedal??

Yes, that's correct.

And if it's piano music, then yes, it's possible this could imply use of the pedal.

Check out this textbook on Four Part Harmony.
