Common Time and Cut Time
May 18, 2021 03:06AM
Hi!

Since Common Time is 4/4 and Cut Time is 2/2: it has for each measure the same amount of sum note durations.
And since the time we specify for each measure is for notational purposes only. What is the purpose of the Common Time vs Cut Time?

Hi; i dont know what Cut Time is; anyway, there is an issue regarding different time frames: different times frames fit into different melodies: that is, ultimately, different harmonic rhythms (the relation between action vs rest, notably I-V degrees, I-II, etc.) within different compositional (melodic-harmonic, etc.) motives (drives). A rather often example.is that of compasses using 4/3 metrics (4 compasses of 3 times each, like in waltz). Greetings

The accents. Mathematically is the same, but musically isn't, because in 2/4 you accent different that in 4/4. That's why most marches are writting in 2/4
